- Over recent decades, a large variety of two-dimensional or layered
material systems has attracted the interest of both fundamental and
applied physics communities. One key issue in this research is to
understand the interactions between the electrons in these solids. In
particular the Coulomb repulsion gives rise to unconventional
superconducting, magnetic or otherwise non-trivial ground states, and
to many more unusual properties.
In this talk I describe how the functional renormalization group
(fRG) method draws an extremely diverse picture of the interaction
effects between electrons in two-dimensional lattice systems at low
temperatures. We discuss what information can be gained by the fRG
data about differences and trends through material classes like iron
superconductors or graphene systems. We also discuss recent extensions
of the approach that aim at a more quantitative description of these
