- Beschreibung
- This series of lectures aims at Master‘s and PhD students in mathematics and offers a first glimpse into topics which are not routinely taught in our MSc/PhD programme. The emphasis is to introduce new concepts and techniques, and not to present full mathematical details. Abstract: Real algebra and geometry has been developed during the last 100 years from a purely theoretical point of view. Surprisingly, connections to polynomial optimization and thus to applied sciences have been discovered recently, contributing to the ongoing success of the branch. In this series of three lectures, I will first give an introduction to the most important concepts and results of real algebra and geometry. I will then describe how these results connect to optimization, mostly via semidefinite programming, and demonstrate some of the applications of these techniques.
