- Dynamical localization is an astonishing phenomenon: quantum mechanics constrains the dynamics of a classically ergodic kicked rotor, hinders its energy absorption and makes it behave in a regular integrable-like way. Is this phenomenon possible also in a many-body context? In order to answer to this question, we study the case of N coupled quantum kicked rotors. We show that we can map this model on the hopping of a particle over an N-dimensional disordered lattice which undergoes a transition from Anderson localization to diffusion when N is increased beyond some threshold. This fact directly corresponds to a transition from dynamical localization to ergodic energy absorption in the kicked rotor chain: the system is therefore never localized in the thermodynamic limit. Our analytical results are corroborated by numerics; in particular, in the thermodynamic limit, a mean field analysis shows that the system absorbs energy in time in an unexpected subdiffusive way.
