: \nDescription: It is a long standing conjecture in Model Theory that eve
ry stable field is separably closed. It was shown by Macintyre in 1971 tha
t a field is omega-stable if and only if it is algebraically closed\, a re
sult extended by Cherlin and Shelah to superstable fields in 1979. In this
talk\, we will present some of the main results regarding stability in fi
elds. We will provide a short overview of the background material\, and sk
etch a proof of Macintyre’s theorem. We will also briefly look at separa
bly closed fields\, the only known examples of non-superstable stable fiel
 ds.
