- Abstract Blindness alone affects 34 million people worldwide according to WHO (2016). Several diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa, Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, Glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration due result in the functional impairment of vision impairment and ultimately blindness. Multiple therapeutic approaches have been developed during last decays including: neuroprotection, gene therapy, antibody therapy, optogenetics, neuroprotection, retinal prosthesis, and cell replacement therapy. As the utmost parameter of these therapies, we need to examine retinal functionality in animal models. To this end we quantified retinal coding diversity by the development of a visual characterization toolbox by which responses of retinal ganglion cells to different visual inputs were classified.
