- The colloquium will present advanced approaches to polymer characterization. In addition to WAXD and SAXS for analyzing crystalline structure and crystallinity, the focus will be on low-frequency Raman and terahertz/FIR spectroscopy, which provide direct insight into intermolecular interactions, lattice vibrations, and hydrogen bonding. Case studies on biodegradable polymers and aromatic polyesters will be shown, including non-destructive terahertz and Raman imaging to visualize crystallinity, residual stress, molecular orientation, and marine degradation processes.
