- Beschreibung
- Concepts from network theory promise to advance our understanding of the dynamics of complex systems. From the network perspective, complex systems are considered to be composed of subsystems (nodes) which interact with each other (represented by a link) or not (no link). To infer such interaction networks from spatially extended natural systems, links are usually derived from empirical data using time series analysis techniques and nodes are identified with sensors capturing the dynamics of subsystems. We will discuss important assumptions underlying the network approach and focus on potential pitfalls and remedies.
