- Recently the Nobel Prize was given to Francois Englert and Peter Higgs for the introduction of the theoretical discovery of the Higgs mechanism. It was confirmed by the discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN in 2012. However, not all phenomena can be explained by the Standard Model and it is assumed to be a low energy approximation of a more complex theory. Vector boson scattering is sensitive to the electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) mechanism and hence to new physics in case the EWSB mechanism offers new features at high energies. Effects of this new physics can be parametrized at low energies by anomalous couplings within an effective field theory approach. This presentation resumes the work of my diploma thesis which focused on setting constraints on the anomalous quartic gauge coupling (aQGC) parameters alpha4 and alpha5 and the selection of kinematic variables sensitive to the presence of aQGC are with the aim to optimize the event selection.
