 es and cancer.

search of Professor Morelli: At the present\, it is known that oxidative p
hosphorylation machinery (OXPHOS) is located in the mitochondrial inner me
mbrane but\, in the last years\, several studies demonstrated its ectopic
localitation in numerous mammalian cell membranes\, suggesting an extrami
tochondrial ATP production to supply cell processes. OXPHOS proteins would
get to the extra-mitochondrial respiring membranes through heterologous f
usion of mitochondria with endoplasmic reticulum\, then following the path
way of membrane secretion. Such data shed new light on visual transduction
\, neural conduction supported by myelin\, the bioenergetics of plasma cel
ls\, platelets\, helping to understand their metabolism prompting to the f
ormulation of new paradigms in many fields of biology. Publications: 1
