 ion: Owing to its simplified energy level structure\, metastable helium of
 fers a cleaner system to study light-matter interaction processes. In this
  talk\, I will present our recent results on optical storage using electro
 magnetically induced transparency (EIT) and coherent population oscillatio
 ns (CPO) in metastable helium gas cell at room temperature. I will also br
 iefly talk about the possible phase sensitive processes in the system resu
 lting in the generation of non-classical states of light\, interesting for
  various applications in quantum optical experiments.
