s made contributions to several fields\, ranging from innate and adaptive
immunity to developmental genetics and cell biology. She is best known for
her studies of what is considered the most profound embryonic process: ga
strulation. Leptin discovered the essential players that regulate shape ch
anges during gastrulation and elucidated their mechanism of action. Using
genetics\, biochemistry and cell biology\, she established the full regula
tory cascade from a critical transcription factor during gastrulation to i
ts target effector genes. Her current interest is to understand the physic
al basis of the coordination of morphogenetic activities throughout the en
 tire organismPublications:Leptin\, M. and B. Grunewald. (1990).Cell shape
