Description
Abstract Electron-phonon coupling plays an important role in dynamical and transport processes in solid state physics. A renewed interest comes from, for instance, from the recent pump- and-probe experiments with strongly correlated electron materials, which often observe a relaxation of hot charge carriers via bosonic excitations. Just which boson is involved is hard to discern. The numerical treatment of both strong electronic correlations and electron-phonon coupling is difficult for wave-function based methods, often limiting us to either small systems or unrealistic parameters. In this talk I will introduce a novel time-dependent density matrix renormalization group method [1] that is specifically tailored to be efficient for electron-phonon problems. I will discuss two applications, namely the relaxation of a highly excited charge carrier in the one-dimensional Holstein model [1] and transport in a wire across an electron-phonon coupled region [1]. I will conclude with an outlook on applications of the new method to dynamics and transport in spin-phonon coupled systems. [1] C. Brockt, F. Dorfner, L. Vidmar, F. Heidrich-Meisner, and E.
