- Description
- Among the different smart materials family, Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) have their own functionality in developing Mechatronics based devices. We have developed tailor made SMA bulk structures, thin films and composites different specific applications. The possibility of exploring the different actuation, thermo mechanical behavior and life cycle analysis has also been explored. In addition few devices have also been developed; the details in bullet points are listed below. - Development of Copper based SMA bi-morph and their application towards temperature sensing, micro-flapper for aerial robots and waste heat energy harvesting system. - Development of NiTi and NiTiCu tailor made, laser additive manufactured structures for intelligent machine tool holders. - Development of SMA integrated composite flappers for aerodynamic systems. - Investigations on reliability and life cycle analysis of SMA under different Contact and non contact based actuation conditions. - Development of SMA based micro devices including micro-positioning stages, smart cervical collar neck, intelligent solar tracker and auxetic foam for vibration damping
