Description
In 2005 John Ioannidis posited the preposterous (and unrefuted) claim that most published results of biomedicine must be wrong, and so… also not reproducible. Ten years later many preclinical biomedical researchers feel that there is a ‘reproducibility crisis’, and entertain doubts as to the robustness of some of their own results and the rigor of their research method. In addition, and possibly as a consequence, therapies with effects that are spectacular in disease models often prove sorely disappointing when translated into therapies for humans. In my talk I will provide insights from meta-research which may guide us to increase the reliability, robustness, reproducibility, transparency and predictive power of its research.
