- Description
- A core-face network, including posterior occipitotemporal regions and the anterior temporal lobe face area (aTL-FA), are argued to support familiar face-identity processing. The aTL-FA may symbolise the pinnacle of this network, however, the precise nature of identity processing in the aTL-FA remains unclear, owing to poor imaging of this region. In this study, we plan to examine face-identity processing throughout the core-face network using a systematic behavioral battery, fMRI, and DWI, in neurotypicals and developmental prosopagnosics (DP): individuals with a lifelong deficit in recognising the identity of an individual from the face alone. We predict that the core-face network may function in a hierarchical fashion to support normal identity processing and that DP may be associated with deficits in posterior core-face regions, as well as a disconnection deficit to the aTL-FA.
