- Description
- The requirements in metal processing, such as high temperatures and special atmospheres demand adapted solutions for component marking. With CeraCode®, researchers at Fraunhofer have developed a marking for metal components that withstands even high temperatures without affecting the component's properties. Core element of CeraCode® are ceramic luminescent materials that respond to optical excitation by light with pronounced luminescence. These materials are very robust: they withstand high temperatures, are insensitive to chemical influences and can be mixed with various other materials. This means they can be applied to the metal component as a machine-readable DataMatrix code (DMC) using standard industrial printers. The technology concept developed for end-to-end digital component detection has been marketed since 2019 by Senodis Technologies GmbH. In this NDT4INDUSTRY seminar Dr. Manuela Heymann gives a theoretical insight into requirements, challenges and quality assurance for individual part marking in metal processing. Furthermore, the printing process and quality monitoring at the test bench will be presented in a lab tour.
