Title: "AI-Tools in Research and Science Communication"

Abstract:

Sven Engesser is a professor of communication science with a focus on science and technology communication at TUD. He conducts research on medial and interpersonal communication about science and technology as well as communication with machines. Currently, his work focuses on voice assistants (e.g., Alexa) and language models (e.g., ChatGPT). He is particularly interested in how people interact socially with machines and what ideas they have about their counterparts. He publishes interdisciplinarily in communication, technology, political science, and environmental science journals.

The talk focuses on the new generation of chatbots which draw on large language models (e.g. ChatGPT). These tools are able to generate a wide range of texts, such as abstracts, essays, speeches, programming code, and even poems and jokes. The talk discusses risks and opportunities of using these tools in research and science communication.

Everybody is very welcome.
