- The ongoing grand transition under the slogan "greening of industries” is fundamentally changing existing economic systems. It can be assumed that this will have an impact on the emergence of new development paths at the regional level. This lecture discusses the contribution of the concepts of opportunity spaces and change agency to explaining new development paths in peripheral regions against the background of the green transition. On this basis, empirical illustrations will be presented using the example of the bioeconomy in north-eastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Conclusions for future research are drawn from these results. I The co-presenter from the IOER will be Dr Franzsika Ehnert on "Bridging the old and the new in sustainability transitions: The role of transition intermediaries in facilitating urban experimentation".
