SUMMARY:Edwards: The Sparse Synchronous Model
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Stephen A. Edwards\nInstitute of Speaker: Computer Sci

 0 AM\n\n Location:\n Name: TUD ()\n Street: \n City: \n Phone: \n
 Fax: \nDescription: &amp\;lt\;p&amp\;gt\;Most software considers timing a
performance issue\, but for many&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;embedded application
s\, the timing of a result is as important as its&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;val
ue. Most modern computers do have precise hardware timers\, but&amp\;lt\;b
r&amp\;gt\;they are not easily used to make a whole system timing-aware.&a
 mp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;To address this\, we developed t
he Sparse Synchronous Model: a&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;deterministic\, concur
 rent\, timing-aware approach to specifying&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;software.
 A kind of real-time discrete event simulation\, we describe&amp\;lt\;br&am
p\;gt\;its semantics and implementations\, including as an awkward-to-use
C&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;library\, as an embedded language in Haskell\, as a
novel functional&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;language\, and as a Lua library. We
also describe our RP2040&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;microcontroller runtime sys
tem that provides software with an&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;unheard-of timing
 resolution of 62.5 nanoseconds.&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\;&amp\;lt\;br&amp\;gt\
