- Description
- Many flows of simple and complex liquids and, soft matter in general, involve deformable interfaces between different phases and interactions with solid rigid or deformable substrates. The presence of interfaces makes such flows inherently nonlinear, often subject to instabilities that may trigger transitions to complex spatiotemporal behaviour. Several other challenges include the presence of hierarchies of nested time and length scales while solid boundaries result in surface forces and wettability effects whose precise role is not fully understood, in particular, for complex liquids. The workshop will bring together experts on complex fluid flows from different disciplines, including mathematics, engineering, physics and chemistry. They will report on the latest experiments, theoretical advances and technological applications to foster a discussion of the underlying conceptional challenges.
