- In recent years, machine learning has revolutionized microscopy image analysis by providing methods that enable to uncover spatial details of living matter at unprecedented accuracy and scale. In my inaugural lecture I will give an overview of such modern data-driven approaches for bioimage analysis and give examples where they improved our spatio-temporal understanding of complex biological systems. I will cover topics from image restoration, segmentation, tracking and self-supervised learning and will conclude with an overview of future research.
