- Description
- Nuclear safety is a fascinating playground for CFD engineers. One particularly challenging topic is the hydrogen combustion phenomenon due to its multi-scale and multi-physics nature. Covering the whole range of scales, my talk is divided into three parts. In the first part, I will talk about small-scale first-principles simulations in order to derive appropriate modeling assumptions for the combined H2/CO combustion. In the second part, the water droplet flame interaction is investigated in detail, representing another level of complexity, since it adds multi-phase aspects, e.g. evaporation, to the problem. Finally, I will give an impression on the explosion risk analysis in a full-scale pressurized water reactor using the APR1400 design as an example.
