Description

We are excited to announce the launch of the CIDS Science Forum, an innovative new series of events designed to foster collaboration and idea exchange beyond structural boundaries - at CIDS and beyond. Join us for a exciting opportunity to engage with our international partners as they present their cutting-edge research in TUD- and DDc-public lectures hosted by various CIDS departments. This forum aims to create a vibrant space for discussion, inspiration, and the sharing of diverse perspectives.

Join the first talk of the lecture series:

“The AI Monoculture: Preserving Human Diversity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” by Sonja Schmer-Galunder, University of Florida.

Hannah Arendt said that “a person's living humanity diminishes to the extent that they give up thinking.” What happens if we let the AI think in our place? Are we risking creating a world where everyone thinks the same way - like a monoculture of intellectual clones? I argue that our cultural differences, our unique perspectives and ways of seeing make up our humanity, and function as a collective immune system that makes us stronger. One of the biggest ethical questions is that AI changes our humanity in ways that mirror previous technological revolutions, including the extinction of local and embodied forms of knowledge. This talk looks at the ethical questions posed by an AI created in silicon valley colonizing the world, and its impacts on local communities and society.

The talk ist part of the CODIP symposium “Life@Lab 2 – Horizons of AI research in higher education” (https://bildungsportal.sachsen.de/portal/veranstaltungskalender/lifelab-2-horizons-of-ai-research-in-higher-education/ (https://bildungsportal.sachsen.de/portal/veranstaltungskalender/lifelab-2-horizons-of-ai-research-in-higher-education/))
