- Recently there exist extensive experiments to demonstrate the non-genetic phenotype transitions between cancer stem cells and non-stem cancer cells with or without drug treatment. More surprisingly, a phenotypic equilibrium in cancer cell population has been discovered after various cell sorting experiments. With a new theoretical framework to build a genetic landscape, we show that the phenotypic equilibrium comes from a genetic landscape underneath, and that cell ratio equilibrium shift comes from the induction de novo, not from selection of pre-existing heterogeneity of cancer cell population.
