- Description
The Physics of Life (PoL) PhD and Postdoc seminar is a meeting where PoL early career scientists present their research to their peers. All are welcome!
The seminar consists of two short talks by PhD students and/or Postdocs, each followed by a discussion in which speaker and attendants can exchange ideas, engage in scientific discussions and network with their fellow young scientists.

The talks:
Augusto Ortega Granillo (Campàs Group) – Abstract: During embryonic development many hollow spaces are created to build functional structures of many different shapes and sizes. The pancreas, salivary glands and liver make branched tubular structures that collect secreted fluids for the digestive function after birth. In contrast, stomach and bladder generate big hollow elastic cavities that will store fluids or solids to fulfill digestive and excretory functions. In this work we characterize the ability of pancreas and stomach embryonic progenitors to generate water flow by osmotic potential. We probed the water permeability of the epithelial layer using osmotic shocks. And we propose a proliferation feedback loop that alleviates the hydrostatic pressure buildup maintaining an out-of-equilibrium steady state.
