- Description
- Take a single elastic interface wandering through disorder. To understand its fluctuations, we first do the most unreasonable thing: replicate it n times. The disorder average then turns the problem into interacting quantum particles and let us solve it. Then we sent n to zero, the copies vanish, and what remains is the physics of the original interface: its free energy and how it fluctuates. Hooray! the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang Universality Class.
