- Description
- This talk has to be postponed and will be rescheduled. The inability to distinguish between inductive differentiation and selection in proliferating cell populations presents a principle obstacle to identifying cellular programs of cell-fate specification. Here we show that in-vivo fate mapping of the progenies of individual naive T cells during an immune response allows the identification of the differentiation program of effector and memory T cells. Long-lived, slowly proliferating memory precursors arise early and give rise to short-lived, rapidly proliferating effector cells. The resulting model provides a unifying mechanism for generating effector T cells in primary and recall immune responses and has implications for the design of vaccination.
