- Description
- Open many-body quantum systems out of equilibrium often exhibit a rich and complex dynamics. In addition to purely classical effects like the dissipation of energy and the relaxation of populations to a thermal equilibrium or nonequilibrium stationary state, the time evolution features genuine quantum effects such as the decay and rebirth of quantum coherences, correlations, quantum discord and entanglement. The talk discusses the most important general theoretical concepts and numerical simulation techniques to describe this behavior, employing methods from quantum information theory, from the theory of open systems and from nonequilibrium thermodynamics. In particular, we will investigate the impact of initial system-environment correlations, nonlocal environmental correlations and quantum memory effects.
