- Owing to its simplified energy level structure, metastable helium offers a cleaner system to study light-matter interaction processes. In this talk, I will present our recent results on optical storage using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and coherent population oscillations (CPO) in metastable helium gas cell at room temperature. I will also briefly talk about the possible phase sensitive processes in the system resulting in the generation of non-classical states of light, interesting for various applications in quantum optical experiments.
