- Description
- Femtochemistry concerns the ultrafast chemical dynamics initiated by ultrashort (femtosecond) laser pulses. The ultrashort laser pulse creates a coherent excitation (a wave packet) in the molecular system and the nuclei therefore start to move in an almost classical-like manner. This dynamics can be monitored in a pump-probe setup using either a second laser of by diffraction. In this seminar we will discuss basic issues regarding coherent excitation and the interpretation of experiments. We will present some of our results concerning the theoretical treatment of indirect dissociation (resonances), ultrafast spectroscopy in liquids, ultrafast X-ray diffraction, and the possibilities for wave-packet manipulation.
